Due to recent events in China, European Commission had wanted EFSA to publish scientific opinion about the possibility of melamine content of China origin milk and milk products.
Melamine is a chemical compound that is used in plastics, resin and binder. It is forbidden to use in animal feed and food.

At the end of the their scientific researches , EFSA scientist determined that if one American consume chocolate or biscuit that include melamine contaminated milk daily, consumption of melamine will not be higher than 0,5 mg/kg body weight and this is the tolerable daily intake (TDI) value of the melamine.
Due to children consume chocolate and biscuits higher than adults, melamine consumption is higher than TDI value when they consume chocolate or biscuit that include melamine contaminated milk.
Consuming high amount of melamine badly effects kidneys. EFSA determined the TDI value of the melamine as 0,5 mg/kg body weight during the special contamination event in 2007.
