BRC Global Food Standard (British Retail Consortium)

Firstly, it has been published as BRC Food Technical Standard by British Retail Consortium (BRC) in 1998. Standard is used by food suppliers. BRC Global Food Standard was designed for all sellers that supply food products to British retailers. According to standard, certification help seller, manufacturers, retailers actualize their legal obligation and protect consumers.

BRC Global Food Standard especially stipulate applying HACCP system, effective quality management, controlling environment standards, products and stuffs.
To apply BRC Global Food Standard, manufacturers have to adapt six fundemental criteria. These are;
- HACCP system
- Quality management system
- Environment standard
- Process control
- Product control
- Stuff efficiency and hygiene education
BRC Global Food Standard was published under six titles according to food processing. Companies should choose suitable category for them and apply to certification. Categories are;
- Processed meat and fish products
- Fresh or frozen fruit and vegetable products
- Cooled or frozen milk and milk products, egg
- Ready to eat or cook cooled, frozen or cooked meat or fish products
- Heat protective, hermetic canned products
- Durable other food products (beverages, bakery products, dehydrated foods, confectionery, breakfast cereals, oil and saturated fat and food additives)
