Phthalates, A Packaging Chemical, May Cause Childhood Obesity

Researches from Mount Sinai School of Medicine has found that childhood obesity may related to phthalates used in food packaging.

Phthalates are used not only in food packaging industry not also in toys, hair sprays, shampoos, nail polishs, soaps, lotions, lubricants, paint, pesticides and cosmetics. Earlier findings showed phthalates causes several adverse on on human health. Some of the are kidney, liver and testis diseases.
The new adverse effect of phthalate is obesity. Researhes said that high levels of the packaging chemicals found in the children’s urine may play a role in obesity by disrupting hormones that regulate growth and development.
These all problems should force authorities to ban phthalates usage in food packages or other material that can contaminate the chemical to human. Package industry should also nonhazardous chemical as an alternative.
