President Obama had told in a televised interview “The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) has not been able to catch some of these things as quickly as I would have expected them to catch them, so we’re going to be doing a complete review of its operations,”. “At a bare minimum, we should be able to count on our government keeping our kids safe when they eat peanut butter.”

As we understand from his speech, Obama dissatisfied former FDA commissioner. He is absolutely right if we consider safety failures of melamine, spinach, ground beef, and also latest peanut butter withdrawn from the market due to safety reasons. The latest event, salmonella outbreak linked to peanut products caused 8 death and 500 or more sickened people.
Obama’s assurance about the review of FDA’s operations effected positively many organizations including Grocery Manufacturers Association. They also wanted to decrease the risk of food-borne illness very urgently and wrote letters to congress in this way.
As he promised, President Obama has announced the head commissioner of FDA: Dr.Margaret Hamburg. Dr. Hamburg is food safety and bio-terrorism expert. Also Obama chose Baltimore health commissioner Dr Joshua Sharfstein . Dr. Sharfstein is well-known for his efforts to ensure the safety of children’s cough medicine – as Hamburg’s chief deputy.
Now we expect two experts will make improvements and innovations in FDA for safety foods and kids’ health.
